How to play
Sixty seconds to your first laugh
- Pick a story. Don't read it — you can't, we hide it. You'll only see the title and how many blanks it has.
- Fill the blanks. We ask for one word at a time: a food, an animal, something you'd shout. Type anything. Tap a suggestion if you're stuck.
- Reveal. The story appears with your words stamped in. Someone reads it out loud with a straight face. Nobody manages this.
- Share it. Send the link or save the card. Your friends can fill the same story with their own words and compare.
Words that win
- Specific beats generic. “Lasagna” is funnier than “food.” “My dentist” is funnier than “a man.”
- Use real people. The name of someone in the room is the highest-value word in the game.
- Don't try to be funny. The story does the work. Random and honest wins; forced jokes break the sentence.
- Watch the grammar hint. “An action ending in -ing” means juggling, not juggle. We fix “a/an” for you; we can't fix tense.
Three ways to play
Solo
Pick any story and go. Two minutes, start to finish.
Pass & play
On the story's start screen, set the number of players (up to 8). The phone shows whose turn it is; each person adds one word and passes it on. In the reveal, every word is colored by who wrote it.
Party room
Host a room, share the five-letter code or the link. Up to 12 people join on their own phones. The blanks get dealt out; everyone fills theirs at once; the moment the last one lands, the story goes to the host — and only the host — to read out loud a couple of sentences at a time. Nobody else's phone has it until they've performed it. The host can run round after round, or set a time up front and let the room start itself. Running it at a bar or restaurant? Put angrylips.com/tv on the screen and the whole room plays from their phones.
Custom stories with AI
On Create, describe a situation (“our fantasy football draft where Mike picked a kicker in round one”), add names, pick a tone. The AI writes a new story with blanks placed the AngryLips way. You still play it blind. Two are free; Pro gives you 300 a month.
